Brucie Collections gallery is pleased to present to the Ukrainian public the work of Alvin Booth, a British artist whose art pushes the boundaries of modern nude photography.

Alvin Booth’s highly valued work is that of a true artist and inventor who prefers to create the stage and what is on it rather than to photograph what already exists, transforming the human form by reducing it to its bare lines in the Osmosis series, multiplying it using non-digital methods to a dizzying and often abstract degree in Anamorphosis, or using hand made latex corsets and paint to transform skin and bodies into statue-like perfections of the human form in his first work Corpus.

Alvin Booth was born and raised in the industrial port of Hull in the Northeast of England in 1959. He later moved to Oxford where his interest in photography grew. In 1989 he settled in New York to concentrate on his art. Today he divides his time living and working in both New York and the Southwest of France.

While working as assistant to a number of big names in fashion photography in New York, Booth gained invaluable experience as a photographer and created a significant archive of private work for his portfolio. During these years Booth developed his recognizable and distinct style always focusing on the human body, though each new series develops its unique perspective. The photographer himself names French sculptors August Rodin, Aristide Maillol, and Gaston Lachaise as the greats who have influenced him the most.

An exhibition of Alvin Booth’s work at Hamilton’s Gallery in London in 1995 first brought him to the attention of collectors and major art galleries. Since then, his photographs have been shown in over 50 solo and group exhibitions in museums and galleries in Europe and America. The artist’s nude studies can be found in the collections of Elton John, Barbara Millstein of the Brooklyn Museum, Leon Constantiner, and Henry Buhl, amongst others. Booth’s first book of nudes, Corpus, published in 1999, was awarded the Kodak Photo Book press award for 2002. His second book Osmosis won the Red Dot Design Award in 2007.

The Kiev connoisseurs of contemporary art photography will be able to see and purchase selected works by Alvin Booth, in Brucie Collections gallery starting November, 20th, 2014.
